The season is beginning to pick up and most shippers are taking action. The overall crop looks great this year, with a heavy set on the early varieties and uniform sizing.
Peaches- The peach season is underway; both yellows and whites are available. The two yellow varieties, Super Rich and Super Lady, both have excellent blush. The main white variety Snow Angel, has almost full blush. There are minimal quality issues and size is increasing with every pick.
Nectarines- The early nectarine crop has been shrinking over the last few years due to the demand for better eating and higher quality fruit. The Zee Fire and Red Roy varieties are expected to start the season off in mid-May.
Plums- The plum crop is expected to be larger than last season, however sizing is not quite up to last year. It is still early, so things could change through next month. The season will kick-off with red varieties such as the Red Beaut around the middle of May and then black varieties such as Earliqueen towards the beginning of June.
Apricots-The apricot season is underway with a variety called the Poppycot. Sizing is available up to 72’s, but most are going to be very small peaking at 96’s. Most shippers are underway with apricots, and overall quality is nice. Poppycot apricots have a light orange blush on a yellow background. There are minimal defects due to the beneficial weather during the past few weeks.
